A proposed traffic light at a Bay Ridge intersection was approved by the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) on Saturday, August 19, bringing an added layer of pedestrian protection to an area rife with traffic safety issues.
Following the conclusion of a DOT study of the intersection of Colonial Road and 91st Street, officials approved construction of the traffic signal at the crossing. Installation will be performed by contract and is tentatively set to be completed by November 30.
Demands for increased traffic control at the intersection have come from area residents, as well as 43rd District Councilmember Vincent Gentile.
“All of the seniors at the nearby Shore Hill Housing Senior Complex will have a much easier time walking to Food Town and other shops on Third Avenue,” Gentile said.
