Nearly a year ago, Pipin’s Pub was relocated to temporary quarters at 9023 Third Avenue when a developer purchased the property on the southwest corner of 97th Street and Third Avenue. He also acquired the adjacent building that housed the former JT’s Restaurant with the intent of constructing a multi-story building that reportedly will house 15 condo units. Once the new structure has been erected, the plan is for Pipin’s to return to a new tavern at the old site.
The developer finally secured the appropriate permits to demolish the old buildings and when we passed by the other day, the Paul Toth Excavating company had started the demolition.
We’re saddened by the recent death of TV personality Mary Ann King who was known by thousands of youngsters as Miss Mary Ann, host of the kiddie show known as “Romper Room.” Mary Ann was a big hit here when she marched in the 1981 Ragamuffin Parade and then help distribute prizes after the parade.
As part of Brooklyn Battle Week, the Society of Old Brooklynites will hold its annual memorial tribute to the Prison Ship Martyrs from the American Revolutionary War. The event will take place at the base of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument on the top of the hill in Fort Greene Park on Saturday, August 26, at 10 a.m.
Forty feet below this monument is a large crypt containing the actual remains of approximately 11,500 patriots, America’s first POW’s
