Survey says: NYC Ferry gets thumbs up from riders

People love the ferry.

According to survey results released by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) on Friday, August 25, 93 percent of riders gave the new NYC Ferry a satisfaction rating of seven or higher on a 10-point scale, with 66 percent dubbing it a perfect 10.

According to the agency – which, alongside Mayor Bill de Blasio, headed the revival of the waterway service – more than 1,300 NYC Ferry riders across all three active routes (the East River, South Brooklyn and Rockaway) were surveyed in an effort to understand better the new system’s patterns, preferences and admitted kinks.

“We’re excited that after less than four months, the vast majority of riders have had a positive experience with NYC Ferry,” said NYCEDC President and CEO James Patchett. “We’re also seeing the service meeting our goal of supporting commuters around the five boroughs. With Astoria service launching next week, we can’t wait to bring NYC Ferry to even more neighborhoods.”

Findings also revealed that 87 percent of riders are New York City residents, with 85 percent of weekend riders and 90 percent of peak-hour riders residing in one of the five boroughs.

The system’s Astoria route will launch on Tuesday, August 29, with all six of the service’s routes slated to be up and running by 2018.
