Fire marshals said lithium ion batteries from electric scooters and bikes caused the three-alarm fire that hurt three people and displaced many residents in a building on Seventh Avenue and 54th Street May 2.
“If using a lithium battery, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage,” FDNY said. “Always use the manufacturer’s cord and power adapter made specifically for the device. If a battery overheats, discontinue use immediately.”
