On Sunday, April 26 at 12 p.m., the Fort Hamilton H.S. Alumni Association will induct the following members into the Shore Road school’s Hall of Fame:
Stephen Chan, Class of ’84 (incumbent state senator); Mary Choy ’99; Marianne Curran-Fezza ’78; Joseph Keeler ’52; Julio Lugo ’93 (posthumously); Michael McLeer ’88; Joshua Pace ’85; Kevin Pemberton ’88; Daniel Perez ’97; Susanne Perez ’96; and Sandra Suweidan ’86.

The installation ceremonies will take place at the El Caribe Country Club, 5945 Strickland Ave., Brooklyn. Joseph Estrellar is the current president of the Alumni Association. Admission tickets are $123 each.
The Alumni Association was founded in 1983 by David Whitebook, who has been on the faculty first as a teacher, as coordinator of student activities and then as assistant principal.
Vincent Gentile, class of ’77, was the first alumni president. In 1997 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Later he served as a state senator and city councilman.
The FHHS Hall of Fame was established in 1991, so it is also celebrating its 35th Anniversary.

Fort Hamilton was built on the former site of the elite Crescent Athletic Club and golf course. The school opened with its first classes in 1941. Augustus Ludwig was the first principal.
Some other prominent Hall of Famers include Christopher Mega, Janet Yellen, Jeff Samaha, Dr. Alice Farkouh, Bernard King, Larry Morrish, Robert Adamski, Theodore General, Maj. Gen. Robert Rose, Letitia James, Ellen Bonner, Helen Curzio Spears, Peter Clavin, George Simonetti, Barbara Vellucci and Jean Balukas.

On Saturday, April 25 at 12 p.m., the school will hold the formal unveiling of the wall of the entire Hall of Fame from 1991 to 2026. The event will be hosted by Principal Kaye Houlihan and will be held on the first floor of the school.

At its recent April meeting, the Bay Ridge Historical Society had Colin Fraser, a former vice president at Christie’s and former board member of the American Stamp Dealers Association and the Philatelic Foundation, as a guest speaker via Zoom. His PowerPoint presentation was titled, “Insights to American History Through Postal Artifacts.”
The BRHS was founded in 1976. The current president is Tom McCarthy and the vice president is historian and author Henry Stewart.
This latest program was part and parcel of the Society’s support of America’s 250th anniversary.
