NYU Lutheran president discusses medical center’s promising future on ‘Victoria’s Stars’

Healthcare was in the spotlight on this month’s “Victoria’s Stars,” as host and co-publisher of Brooklyn Media Group, Victoria Schneps, sat down with Wendy Goldstein, president and CEO of NYU Lutheran to discuss everything you need to know about getting the right care and, of course, Lutheran Medical Center’s merger with NYU Langone.

“I think things were going so well and so fast that [NYU Langone] didn’t want to hold back and put things off for the future,” said Goldstein of the full-asset merger, which began in April, 2015 as an affiliation and has culminated in Lutheran becoming the Brooklyn Campus of NYU Langone.

This, Goldstein said, is indicative of NYU’s efficiency.

“It’s so exciting,” she said. “They’ve got the vision, they’ve got the resources and they’ve got the talent – and they make these incredible things happen.”

“Our goal is Brooklyn; What will it mean to someone like myself who looks to get healthcare?” asked Schneps, noting that, in her work as the co-publisher of community newspapers and in Goldstein’s work as the head of a local hospital, the community comes first.

“NYU’s intention is to make this merger seamless so that, ultimately, there will be no difference between their Manhattan campus and their Brooklyn campus,” Goldstein said, listing a number of additions that have already sprung from the deal, such as a brand new, top-of-the-line computer system mirroring NYU’s.

But, according to Goldstein, that is only the beginning.

For more on what will come of the merger, and what it means for Brooklyn, tune into “Victoria’s Stars” on Friday, October 9 at 5 p.m. The show will air on BCAT, which can be found on Time Warner channel 56, Cablevision channel 69, RCN channel 84 and Verizon channel 44.
