Fairway to welcome Red Hook Summer Ferry with weekend mini-festival

What better way to celebrate the arrival of the Red Hook Summer Ferry — and the unofficial start of summer — than with a weekend of mini-festival fun?

That’s what Fairway Market in Red Hook has in mind for this Memorial Day weekend. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26, Fairway’s waterfront parking lot at 480-500 Van Brunt Street will be full of live music, food demos, and balloon animals for kids. Fairway sits right by the new Van Brunt Street ferry stop, which utilizes a long-dormant ferry landing.

The Red Hook Summer Ferry will shuttle Brooklynites and visitors between Pier 11/Wall Street in Manhattan and two stops in Red Hook: Van Brunt Street and IKEA. The ferry service will run every 25 minutes from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends starting Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend (Monday, September 2). Free transfers to northbound East River Ferry Service will be provided, as well.

The Red Hook Summer Ferry is the result of a partnership between City of New York, New York Water Taxi, Billybey Ferry Company, Fairway Market, IKEA, and the O’Connell Organization.
