AbelCine Development Center joins Industry City

Industry City has added yet another tech center to its growing roster.

AbelCine, a provider of products and services to the production, broadcast and new media industries, has joined Sunset Park’s waterfront property with its new development center.

The company, founded in 1989, touts itself on making technology easier for productions and content creators to understand, access and employ.

CEO of Industry City Andrew Kimball is excited about the addition.

“The new AbelCine Development Center provides a great snapshot of the innovation economy growing at Industry City,” he told this paper, stressing the new center’s expected impact on local jobs. “Like the larger Industry City community, AbelCine exists at the nexus of multiple high-employment industries — in this case, technology and film — and their space here supports a wide range of uses, from design and engineering to machining and production. AbelCine’s presence at Industry City will generate a number of [business-to-business] opportunities for our other tenants and new job opportunities for local residents.”

“Evaluating new technologies and adapting them to the needs of the production and broadcast communities has always been at the heart of what we do as a company,” Pete Abel, CEO of AbelCine said in a statement as the news was made official on Wednesday, November 9. “With the opening of our new Development Center, we are greatly expanding our capabilities in this regard, which ensures creatives can always rely on us to help them navigate the next big thing.”

The center features an engineering lab where products are designed to address specific technical needs within the industry. The company is also able to identify limitations of traditional gear and develop effective solutions.

The new 12,500 square foot facility is home to AbelCine’s expanding engineering, product development, and integration units and will serve as a hub of innovation within the company.

“We are excited to be a part of the creative community at Industry City,” added Jonathan Epner, director of Market Development at AbelCine. “Since our range of knowledge and experience encompasses traditional broadcast and production, as well as exciting new mediums, such as [virtual reality] and 360 imaging, we see ourselves as a resource for any media company looking to maximize the impact of new technology on their creative projects.”

AbelCine’s Development Center is currently open to their customers and business partners by appointment only from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., while all other locations continue to operate under normal business hours.
