Anopoli Ice Cream Parlor and Family Restaurant prepared for filming of the movie, "The Kitchen."

Three production workers were set up under a tent on a rainy Thursday morning as the Anopoli Ice Cream Parlor and Family Restaurant prepared for filming of the movie, “The Kitchen,” slated to open in theaters on September 20, 2019.

Hungry diners were still entering the Bay Ridge staple as crews brought in various sets and slowly turned the modern diner into a 1970s restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. “We’re just set decorating. We have a couple of days of set decorating before the actors come in,” the location director explained.

Crews will be working on preparing the diner for filming before the rest of the cast and crew of the movie arrives in Bay Ridge on Monday. Manny Saviolakis, the owner of Anopoli, wants to remind his customers that due to the filming taking place, the restaurant will be closed to customers until filming wraps up.

The movie stars big name actors and actresses including Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, Elizabeth Moss and Domhnall Gleason. “The Kitchen” is based off a DC/Vertigo Comics tale of three wives that are married to jailed mobsters. In the movie, these wives are forced to take over their spouses’ business following the sentencing of their husbands.

Anopoli Ice Cream Parlor and Family Restaurant is located at 6920 Third Avenue.
