Greek eatery Blue Door ready to open in Ridge

The Blue Door will soon be ajar, welcoming Greek food lovers to its Santorini-hued culinary paradise in Bay Ridge.

The easy-to-spot restaurant, which has taken over the spot formerly occupied by Pig Guy on Third Avenue between 84th and 85th Streets, has a brilliant cerulean portal that leads into a white-washed space that instants transports diners to a sun-washed Greek isle, even with snow coating the sidewalk outside.

The food – impeccably fresh and flavorful – is equally idyllic. Blue Door bills itself as a souvlakia, serving up classic Greek dips such as Tzatziki (herb and cucumber-studded yogurt) and Melitsanosalata (garlic-inflected pureed eggplant), as well as souvlaki and gyro platters and pita sandwiches.

During a preview dinner for family and friends, these dishes and others – including a house burger piled with feta cheese, pickled onion and arugula, all served with hand-cut French fries – were available for tasting, though co-owner Kiki Lekkas cautions that the menu may change as the cozy, casual eatery (which will be open Tuesday through Sunday) goes through its soft opening over the next couple of weeks.
