The Brooklyn-Chinese Family Health Center opened its doors lastmonth, finally welcoming the public into their new, larger home at5008 Seventh Avenue, in the heart of Brooklyn’s Chinatown.

With over 10,000 square feet of space, the new site — a part ofthe Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC) network — clocks in attwice the size of its previous home, providing a larger space toserve the health care needs of a growing Asian population insouthwest Brooklyn.

According to the latest U.S. Census figures, Brooklyn is home tothe fastest-growing Chinese-American community.

The center features 10 exam rooms, a rehabilitation gym, a dentalarea with four dental chairs, and medical offices and conferencerooms. Full-time staff will also increase to 30 health careworkers, who will be able to speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin andToisanese. Available services will include adult and familymedicine, nutrition, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, HIVcounseling and testing, and prenatal care assistance.

Other members of the LFHC network include the Sunset Park FamilyHealth Center, the Park Slope Family Health Center, the Shore RoadFamily Health Center, the Park Ridge Family Health Center, and theFamily Physician Family Health Center.

Work began on the center in October, 2010.
