Fun day for a serious cause – sarcoma

Miss Brooklyn 2011, Christina Moore, hosted an event to raise money and awareness about sarcoma through a day of fun activities.

The event on Saturday, June 4, raised money through raffles and baskets sales, while kids and adults of all ages enjoyed rides and attractions at Adventures Family Entertainment Center on Shore Parkway.

In addition, the amusement park promised to donate a portion of its profits from that day to the cause.

“I want people to understand that by having fun they can help others,” said Moore.

Funds collected from this event were donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America and the Sarcoma Alliance.

The event was part of a four-event series around the borough all focused on fighting sarcoma — the rarest form of cancer, which attacks the body’s tissues.

With all the events combined, Moore and her partners have raised over $20,000.

Moore hosted all of the events and chose to take action against sarcoma because her aunt, Josephine Schiavo, fought and survived the disease.

She said that because of the events many more “people are aware and want to help.”
