Brooklyn VA Hospital receives prestigious award

A local hospital has earned the Outstanding Achievement Awardfrom the Commission on Cancer for its efforts in cancer researchand outreach.

I am so proud of the staff at New York Harbor for thisachievement, said Martina Parauda, Director of VA New York HarborHealthcare Systems, which runs the VA Hospital at Seventh Avenueand Poly Place. This is the first time a VA facility in ournetwork has received this award.

The staff received the award on June 15, at its Cancer Survivor’sDay celebration. The facility had to pass an evaluation by aphysician surveyor demonstrating a certain level of compliance withthe standard levels, to earn the honor.

Members of the staff said that the honor was a team effort.

The Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes cancerprograms that strive for excellence in providing quality care tocancer patients, would not have been possible without the hardwork, commitment and contributions of our staff, said Dr. CarolLuhrs.
