Oh deer!

Two deer were spotted in the water underneath the VerrazanoNarrows around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Ridgeite P.J. Landers happened to be at the scene. One of thedeer disappeared into the water and escaped, he recalled. Theother got on the rocks, climbed up and got its head caught inbetween the railing between the bike path and the water.

Landers said the area was blocked off for an hour or so byEmergency Service Unit (ESU) trucks and police from the 68thPrecinct. After a half hour, the deer was tranquilized and coveredup with a big canopy.

They started to cut the metal away from the deer’s body,Landers said. After that, they lifted it up and put it in the backof a mounted unit van.

Todd Chin was jogging on the bike path when he spotted theanimal. I never saw a deer in Brooklyn before, he said. I haveseen possums and raccoons but never a deer!

Landers said he is not sure where the tranquilized deer wassent. Hopefully it was taken to a zoo, he said.
