Lights go on at St. Athanasius

The trees of Brooklyn are alight with holiday cheer.

Saturday, December 10, marked the Ninth Annual Nativity and TreeLighting Ceremony at St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church. Treeslined the sidewalk in front of the convent, church and adjoiningschool as part of St. Athanasius’s Keep Christ in Christmascampaign.

Anna Marie Scuteri, an administrative assistant at St.Athanasius who helps collect money for the trees, says that theevent is a parish affair. Volunteers from the parish take time putup the trees and put lights on the trees, she explained. We havesponsors for the stars on the trees.

This year, St. Athanasius erected a life-sized nativity inaddition to the trees. As always, Santa Claus stopped for someholiday greetings and to commemorate the annual celebration.
