The Browns made the only successful extra point in the gamewhich proved to be the margin of victory as they just got by astubborn Eagle team 13 to 12 in a minor division nail-biter.
The Browns opened the scoring when Gianfranco TorpedoPappalari crashed through the defense from the one-yard line. Hethen passed to Tylor Martinez for the extra point and a 7 to 0lead.
That score held up until late in the half when the Eagles’Matthew Sciarrone picked off a Browns pass deep in his ownterritory to stop a Browns drive. The Eagles then set out on a longdrive with Jason Hockfeld and Nate Kruger grinding out the yardageto the Browns five.
Sciarrone capped off the drive as he swept his left end and wentin for the score. But the PAT was stopped, leaving the Eagles apoint shy at 7 to 6. Sciarrone picked off another Browns pass with44 seconds left in the half, but the Eagles were unable tocapitalize.
The second half was a defensive struggle, but the Browns managedone more score early in the fourth quarter when Pappalardi, with aplay action fake, lofted a short pass to Justin Shot Gun Cohenwho was all alone in the corner of the end zone.
The point after was no good, leaving the Eagles just sevenpoints down at 13 to 6. Late in the same quarter, Sciarrone scoredagain for the Eagles, getting them to within one at 13 to 12. Butthe Eagle point after attempt was stopped by the entire middle ofthe Browns’ defensive line, preserving the Browns’ narrowvictory.
In addition to Sciarrone’s two interceptions, Emanuel Ferreiraand Jonathan Tombstone Hockfeld were defensive standouts for theEagles while Shawn Claudio and Giancarlo DiGregorio anchored astingy Browns defensive line.
