Santa visits Kiwanis and the Block Institute

Santa stops by the block.

The 86th Street Bath Beach Kiwanis Club partnered with the BlockInstitute and Academy for their annual holiday party. Thecollaboration has taken place for more than 25 years, says theclub’s treasurer, Phyllis Carbo.

We donate money for toys for over 260 special-needs children,continued Carbo, who is a long-standing participant in thefestivities.

The Block Institute is a private, publicly-funded school thathas classes for pre-school and school age children withdevelopmental and learning disabilities. Dr. Jay Silverstein,principal of the institute, expressed his gratitude., I want tothank Bath Beach Kiwanis for their ongoing support for ourprogram, he said.

When asked about how the partnership started, Silversteinlaughed and stated, They predated me. One day, they reached out tome and we have worked together ever since.

The children were excited and prepared to greet Santa with song,thanks to the tutelage of their music teacher, Sara Shikowitz.Santa Claus, played by Michael Napoliteano, handed the childrentheir gift of a puzzle with help from Carbo and Marge Finamore.
