It was a magical moment for spectators young and old as St.Mary, Mother of Jesus Church at 85th Street and 23rd Avenue inBensonhurst held its tree-lighting ceremony on December 8 at 8:30p.m.
To be out there in the darkness, and then when the lights ofthe tree and the nativity came on, how much warmth the light bringsto dispel the darkness to put everyone in a better mood and abetter state of mind, Father Robert Mucci, the church’s parochialvicar, said.
The church choir was on hand for the event, singing Christmasfavorites like O Christmas Tree to put everyone in the holidayspirit. Mucci recalls the tree-lighting ceremony as providing joyfor all who witnessed it.
It brings beauty and cheer for the season and a true reminderof what the season is all about, he said.
