Borough Hall goes green for St. Pat’s Day

Erin go Borough Hall at the annual Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, held on Friday, March 16.

Helping Markowitz make Borough Hall green for the holiday was Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and Al O’Hagan of the Baile na nGael or “Home of the Irish” organization. The 10th annual breakfast honored Pudgie Walsh of the Brooklyn Mariners as Irishman of the year; Judge John P. Walsh of the Brooklyn Supreme Court with the Justice William T. Bellard Memorial Award; Monsignor Walter Murphy of Immaculate Conception Center Diocese of Brooklyn with the Commodore John Barry Award and John Samuelson, President of Local 100 TWU, with the Paul O’Dwyer Award.

“They say the Irish are lucky, but when you look at what Irish-Americans have done for Brooklyn throughout our history, we can really say that all of Brooklyn has been lucky. From politics to sports to movies, so many of the greatest Brooklynites over the last century and a half can trace their roots to Ireland. And that is why I say that Brooklyn makes the rest of New York City and America ‘green’ with envy,” enthused Markowitz.
