Bay Ridge Community Council poised to welcome new president

After leading the Bay Ridge Community Council for an unprecedented third term, the organization’s President, Alex Conti, is preparing to turn his gavel over to Renee Dorsa, the president of the Brooklyn Real Estate Board.

Dorsa, who was chosen by BRCC’s Nominating Committee to head the slate of officers for 2012-2013, has been working closely with BRCC for the past year and a half, and was heavily involved in planning last year’s picnic. Her nomination was announced at the organization’s most recent meeting, which was held on Tuesday, April 24, at Our Lady of Angels, Fourth Avenue and 74th Street.

Along with Dorsa, Conti was nominated for the position of first vice president, with Karen Tadross nominated for second vice president, Chandra Hira for recording secretary, Joseph Sbarra for treasurer, Arlene Keating for executive secretary and Frank Lombardi for corresponding secretary.

With no nominations from the floor, a single vote from Keating, who has served as executive secretary for the past several years, ratified the nominations. Dorsa, Tadross and Hira are all first-time members of BRCC’s executive board.

“The council is looking to improve its overall status and membership,” explained Conti. “To do that, we need to look not only within but from outside.”

“Being a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, it is both an honor and a privilege to have been nominated to be the incoming president of the Bay Ridge Community Council,” said Dorsa. “I thank our current President, Alex Conti, and all the members of the council to trust in me that I will be able to lead this organization to make great strides in bringing our community together.

“Bay Ridge is already a tight-knit community making it a great place to live and raise a family,” Dorsa went on. “We have fantastic schools, parks, restaurants and culture here. I hope to be a catalyst to further enhance our community as well as maintain what we already have.”
