Ft. Hamilton salutes Vietnam vets

Fort Hamilton Army Base hosted a special tribute to those who served in Vietnam at the third annual Vietnam Veterans’ Day on March 23.

Elected officials, Army personnel and community members gathered to share stories honoring these heroes. There was also a performance by The Persuasions, a world-renowned a capella group, and the Fort Hamilton High School JROTC read a Pledge of Remembrance.

Keynote speaker Colonel Forrest Newton received a plaque commemorating the occasion from Garrison Commander Colonel Michael Gould.

We need to remember it’s about the warrior, not the war,” Gould said. “Now our nation is making a concerted effort to thank and honor the service, valor and sacrifice of our Vietnam-era warriors.”
