Keep BRAVO running

The fourth annual “Keep BRAVO running 5K” will be held on Sunday, May 20 on the Shore Road Recreational Path.

The event benefits BRAVO Volunteer Ambulance Service.

“If you call 911, an ambulance shows up and an EMT helps you and your loved one. You are thankful for the help. Then, you get the bill,” said Michelle Harrison, co-director of the 5K, at the April Community Board 10 meeting. “Each year, BRAVO responds to 1,200 emergency calls for free. We show up for free, we provide care for free and we take you to the hospital for free.”

The flat and scenic race course begins at 101st Street and Shore Road at 10 a.m. and goes along the Narrows. Sketchers sneakers will be given out to the top three male and female runners and awards will be given by age groups and male and female mid pack.

“BRAVO relies entirely on contributions to keep us running,” Harrison noted.

Register online at NYCruns.com or at 101st Street and Fourth Avenue from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on race day. Pre-registration by mail costs $20 through May 13. After May 13, the cost is $25. For more information, call 718-680-4625.
