Sunset Park gets a day in the sun

With fellow New Yorkers all over the city, Sunset Park residents celebrated It’s My Park Day on Saturday, October 20 by sprucing up their beloved park.

“On Saturday, the planets aligned [with] friends and neighbors of all ages, glorious fall weather and gardening,” said Maria Roca, president of Friends of Sunset Park, which organized the day. “Life is good.”

About 50 adults and children participated, including members of Friends of Sunset Park, students from Sunset Park High School and young families. They raked, weeded, dug trenches and planted about 800 daffodil bulbs around the trees in the Sunset Park 9/11 Living Memorial Grave. The bulbs were donated by the New Yorkers for Parks’ Daffodil Project. Benches near the grove were also “touched up.

“We got nice and muddy, yeah!” Roca exclaimed. “Everyone had a great time.”
