Bishop Kearney High School’s Freshman Cross Country team posted an outstanding performance at the New York City Mayor’s Cup race.  The race was held over the rugged hills of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Forty-eight teams from the CHSAA, PSAL and private schools competed for the title of Mayor’s Cup Champion. Theresa (Tessy) Gallagher sprinted to the front with the sound of the starter’s gun and never looked back until she crossed the finished line and was crowned 2012 Mayor’s Cup Champion.

Medals were awarded only to the top three finishers in the race of 350 runners.  Tessy’s sister, Jackie Gallagher, finished closely behind and was awarded the third place medal.  Kailey O’Grady finished in fifth place and just missed medaling but showed tremendous effort with a blazing kick to the finish line, running a personal best over the kills.
