TRIBUTE TO A CAT’S GUARDIAN ANGEL: Ive always had a thing for stray cats, said Gloria McNaughton
Recently, her last rescued kitty, 10-year-old Glenda, passed on. Gloria adopted her, after finding her with a broken leg five years ago. At Glendas passing, Muffins is paying tribute to Gloria for her compassion and life of service to our furry friends in the streets.
You take a lot of abuse feeding strays, said McNaughton. People dont want them around so they find me. She has lived in her studio apartment at 95th Street and Third Avenue for 30 years, but made daily trips to 86th Street and back, feeding stray cats along the way.
When her reputation as a feline caregiver spread, some began allowing her access to their rear lots. At the height of her neighborhood operation, Gloria visited five or more locations a day.
As her mobility decreased with age, she created around her building a cat haven. She let the cats into the basement to protect them from the winter freeze, which her superintendent could not allow. Rather than toss her kitties back into the streets, he built a wooden shelter for them inside the alleyway.

The money I used to spend will be donated to Muffins, she said. I will probably still feed them in the winter; I could never let them starve.
Glorias caring hands are like those of Christ, freely ministering to the needs of the masses. Muffins thanks Gloria for her ministry to the cats, especially Glenda and Tiger. She shows us how to live compassionately, bringing us closer to our creator. — Written by Matthis Chiroux
