Music lovers celebrate the Cove

The Guild for Exceptional Children recently held a fundraiser that struck a chord with many Bay Ridge residents. “The Cove Reunion,” as it was called, brought together many bands that frequented the bar in its heyday.

Mike Lynch, whose band the Lynch Boys was a Cove regular, was the lead organizer of the event. According to Paul Cassone, the Guild’s executive director, the event drew in over 200 people and raised over $9,000 for the Guild.

We were overwhelmed,” Cassone said. “I’m gratified that so many people came out to help.”

The event offered attendees hours of nearly non-stop music. “We wanted it to be short on speeches and long on music,” Cassone said. Cove favorites including Workin’ Class, Nasty Piranhas, and Alive and Kickin’ performed.

Cassone says the money will go to fund a number of the Guild’s needs, including the opening of a new facility, and repairs and modifications to existing ones.
