Bay Ridge shows its support for the Norwegian Day Parade

In a great show of support, the Bay Ridge community came out in force at a fundraiser for the Norwegian Day Parade. While donations are still being counted up, parade chairperson Arlene Rutuelo said that thousands of dollars were raised.

The event, which took place at the Salty Dog on Third Avenue at Bay Ridge Parkway, had raffles and football jersey auctions. For the first time, in 2012, the Norwegian Constitution Day Parade was held on Third Avenue, moving over from its long-time home on Fifth Avenue.

Rutuelo said members of the community came together and made the fundraiser better than she could have imagined. “People are really generous in Bay Ridge,” she said. “They’re good, gracious, and willing to give and help. Not all neighborhoods are like this, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Rutuelo said that $500 of what was raised has been set aside to be donated to a Sandy Relief organization.
