Borough Hall catches the holiday spirit

Borough Hall is ablaze with holiday spirit after its Christmas tree and Menorah were lit on December 6 and December 10, respectively.

The Christmas tree lighting thrilled local residents as Adriana Louise of NBC’s “The Voice” joined Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, nine-year-old Andrew Green, and elected officials to light the 40-foot Christmas tree in Borough Hall Plaza. The event featured an appearance by Santa, as well as free refreshments and gifts.

The Menorah lighting, which took place in front of the Supreme Court Building in Columbus Park and Borough Hall Plaza, was led by Rabbi Aaron Raskin of Congregation B’nai Avraham, joined by Rabbi Simcha Weinstein and Paul Amit, a parent from Kiddie Korner, who lit the menorah from a cherry picker.

The lighting also featured holiday refreshments and musical performances by Yanky Flusberg and Kiddie Korner.

“Here in Brooklyn we are truly blessed that residents of every age, race, religion, gender and sexual orientation live side by side in peace – so let us continue to be an example for the world and proof that we are all children of one almighty,” remarked Markowitz. “And this holiday season, let us pray for the families affected by Hurricane Sandy – who lost their homes, businesses, and cherished possessions – and hope that they can get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
