Nets coach Avery Johnson fired

Avery Johnson, coach of the Brooklyn Nets, was fired today, according to general manager Billy King.

The Nets season began well, with the team winning five games in a row. But through November, they have since lost seven out of ten games they have played, bringing them down to 14-14.

Though the move comes as a surprise to many, there have been signs that team was under duress. The Nets spent $330 million to bring in a new roster this summer as they moved into the Barclays Center. Also, star point guard Deron Williams criticized JohnsonÂ’s coaching tactics just over a week ago.

Johnson, who was appointed the position in 2010, coached the team for a little over two seasons. It was announced that P.J. Carlesimo will take over as coach in the interim.

More information will be available later today, according to communications manager Mandy Gutmann.
