Fireworks mark start of 2013

A kaleidoscope of bright colors emblazoned the Brooklyn sky during the New Year’s Eve annual fireworks spectacular in Grand Army Plaza.

The celebration was sponsored by Borough President Marty Markowitz and held in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance. Brooklyn’s Rock ‘N’ Soul Experience provided musical entertainment and attendees enjoyed a free cup of hot cocoa and bubbly beverages while they waited for the fireworks to start.

“It went great,” stated John Hill, a spokesperson for Markowitz. “It was the most well-attended fireworks show [the borough president] has seen since he’s been in office. Tourists from all over the world come to see it; it’s a really big deal.”

Given the event’s tremendous success, Hill expressed great anticipation for next year’s show. “We are very excited that it went so well and we look forward to next year,” he added.
