Fort’s top brass welcome community leaders at annual reception

Elected officials and activists thronged the community club at Fort Hamilton for the annual colonel’s New Year’s reception, held this year on Saturday, January 5.

Fort commander Colonel Eluyn Gines and Command Sergeant Major Hector Prince – both of whom came to Fort Hamilton in the middle of 2012 – welcomed their guests as they emerged into the Hamilton Room through the stone-walled tunnels of the historic building.

“About six months ago, I came here and became a part of the community,” Gines recalled. “It is our honor and pleasure to join you in celebrating.

“Because of people like you, we continue to shine, so thank you very much for supporting what we do,” he went on. “My family is all of you, from the day I took command.”
