New Year, new gatherings

The NIA Community Services Network welcomed 2013 with an informal gathering of elected officials, principals, school staff, community leaders, community board members, NIA staff, after-school/community partners, police commanders and more on January 3, just days into the new year.

The event, billed as an open house, was all about “bringing together all those people that we work with all year,” noted Mary Anne Cino, executive director of NIA, who added that it was nice for people to see each other in a less formal manner and exchange ideas in the meantime.

Although the event was officially held from 5 to 8 p.m., “People started dropping by at 3 p.m.,” Cino continued, with the last guest arriving at 9 p.m. “It’s always a joy to welcome everyone in our home base.” The gathering took place at NIA main office, located at 6614 11th Avenue.

“It was actually wonderful to welcome our friends and colleagues into the New Year,” Cino concluded.

The NIA’s programs provide counseling, support for seniors, parent education services and community events, amongst many other services. To reach the organization, call 718-236-5266 or email info@niabklyn.org.
