Suspect escapes from police custody in Park Slope

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding Brandon Santana, 24, who escaped from police custody at the 78th Precinct at Sixth Avenue near Bergen Street at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, January 24.

Santana was last seen wearing a brown hooded jacket, blue jeans and white sneakers. He weighs approximately 200 pounds, stands 5’11 tall, with short black hair and brown eyes.

He had just been brought in for questioning regarding the death of 22-year-old Alexander Santiago, who died after being beaten during a bar brawl at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 12th Street shortly after midnight on August 1, 2010. Another victim in the attack survived multiple stab wounds.

It is not publicly known what role Santana had in the attack, for which the alleged leader, Randy Soto, 25, is currently being charged with murder in the second degree, gang assault, possession of a deadly weapon, and other felonies.

Santana escaped after requesting to go to the bathroom and overpowering the unarmed officer who was escorting him from a holding cell down the hallway. The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
