BUZZ: NOISES OFF, presented by Narrows Community Theater, a riotous comedy coming on stage in Ridge

Originally from Wisconsin, a young Midwestern director who is now living in Manhattan is getting the chance of his life to “actually produce” right here in Brooklyn.

Twenty three-year-old, Christian Fleming, will direct “Noises Off,” a “play within a play,” presented by Narrows Community Theater starting February 15.

“The show is a definite challenge,” said Fleming, a recent graduate and recipient of the Wisconsin State Theatre Festival’s Best Director Award.

“It can be very daunting and complex—there’s a lot of doors, in and out, props,” the winner of the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre’s Playwriting Competition noted.

“If you do it well, you can succeed at doing other things.”

Written by British playwright Michael Frayn, “Noises Off” focuses on the comical disasters that result from tryouts in the Midwest, culminating in the Broadway opening of the play “Nothing on,” where “insanity unfolds as the behind-the-scenes personal drama of this dysfunctional cast comes to life,” according to NCT.

“Our big aim here is to really bring a laughable comedy to the Bay Ridge area,” explained the director. “It’s interesting to mention that this is something that you might not get a chance to see in the next five to 10 years.” A great success in London, the hit comedy, according to Fleming, “tends not to be produced in New York,” due to the set, budget and demands.

“[This is your] great opportunity to see a masterful comedy done well!”

Fleming’s excited to have been approached by Narrows Community Theater, feeling that the background he gained in school and his previous experience doing the play has made him the best match to “mount the show.

“I’m lucky and grateful. Everyone feels very appropriate for the character that they are,” added Fleming. “It’s notorious for being difficult; it’s an ambitious project for Narrows.”

Performances will be held at St. Patrick’s Auditorium, 97th Street and Fourth Avenue, on February 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students under 21.
