Coat drive assists those in need

On Wednesday, February 13, Brooklynites came out in Sunset Park to support their community and offer assistance to those in need by donating new and gently used coats through a drive organized by HealthPlus/Amerigroup in partnership with the Claudio Reyna Foundation.

Among those in attendance were Reyna himself, a famed American soccer player and social advocate, and Councilmember Sara González, who represents the area. Reyna’s foundation serves the dual purpose of promoting the sport of soccer while fighting childhood obesity and poverty.

According to the foundation, over 1,500 coats were collected and distributed to Brooklynites in need during this cold season.

“I am so impressed by people who have achieved success and then dedicate themselves to helping others,” noted Gonzalez. “In these tough times, this gesture was most welcome and surely needed. I commend HealthPlus for putting this all together.”
