Park Slope may form a 7th Avenue Business Improvement District

Park Slopers, say hello to the Seventh Avenue Business Improvement District (BID)…?

The Park Slope Chamber of Commerce, local politicians, and community groups are hoping to create a BID to advocate for and support merchants along the avenue’s commercial strip from St. John’s Place to 16th Street.

The goal, they say on their brand-spanking new website, is to “improve the cleanliness of our streets and sidewalks, beautify and green the area, produce promotional events and materials, and provide additional security through storefront cameras and volunteer patrols.

In other words, they want to maintain sanitation, beautify, market, secure, support economic development, and have holiday lighting displays.

The BID would be the second BID in Park Slope; the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID has existed for several years now, serving the same advocacy function.

If you’d like to learn more about the proposed BID, come to their public informational hearing next Thursday, February 28, at 9:30 a.m., at Greenwood Baptist Church – 461 6th Street.

Community and merchant support is necessary to get the Seventh Avenue BID off the ground, so if you’re interested in supporting them, come to this meeting and/or download a Statement of Support from their website. Or contact the group at the contact info below:
