93 Lounge has SLA hearing

Community Board 10 District Manager Josephine Beckmann testified against 93 Lounge at a State Liquor Authority hearing on Thursday, March 7.

Beckmann said she spoke “about the ongoing and regular community complaints from area residents,” about the notorious 93rd Street watering hole, which was the scene of a catastrophic accident during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

After leaving the spot after ringing in 2013, Charles Amado and Andrea Jobity went into Amado’s car. That’s when Amado allegedly drove into several people intentionally, seriously injuring two and crashing into eight parked cars. Then, Jobity reportedly climbed on top of Amado and drove the car, crashing into parked vehicles.

“The SLA has begun addressing violations issued to the establishment, many in connection with the January 1 incident,” she said. “Hearings will continue and the full SLA board will probably render its penalties sometime in May or June.”

Councilmember Vincent Gentile was also present to show his support, but was not able to testify because he is an elected official.

However, he told this paper, There is a lot going on behind the scenes and in light of that we don’t want to jeopardize the investigation. At this time, all we can say is that 93 Lounge remains a high priority for our office. We will have some news very soon.

Amado was charged with three counts of attempted murder in the second degree, four counts of assault in the first degree, vehicular assault in the first degree and driving while intoxicated (DWI). Jobity is charged with driving while intoxicated as a Class-E felony, since she was previously convicted of DWI.

Amado and Jobity’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 8.
