Adelphi Academy to celebrate its 150th anniversary~150 and surviving!

The celebrations started in September of last year with a garden party introducing the improved campus, a Halloween ball for kids and adults, and a holiday party. Adelphi Academy, the oldest independent private co-ed college preparatory school in Brooklyn, will be turning exactly 150 years this year and, oh, do they have a big gala scheduled for their milestone!

“It’s a super event!” exclaimed Chip Cafiero, director of external and community relations, who added that the super event will have “super honorees” such as the president of the Academy, Dr. Roy J. Blash, and lots of community involvement.

Over 500 people will attend the Thursday, April 25 anniversary gala at Gargiulo’s Restaurant, located at 2911 West 15th Street in Coney Island. The black-tie, red-carpet event promises to be great, with “dancing all night.

“We will keep speeches short,” added Cafiero. “Nobody will get a hold of the mike,” he laughed, explaining that videos of the honorees will be shot prior to the occasion.

The honorees are Reno Aprea, Assemblymember Alex Brook-Krasny, Anne Caruso, Albert C. Corhan, The Reverend Fr. Jeffrey L. Hamblin, M.D, The Charles and Marjorie Holloway Foundation, The Iglesias Family, Joseph Mure Jr., Esq., Charles F. Otey, Esq., Iphigenia Romanos, Dr. Robert A. Scott and George P. Smith.

Adelphi was founded in 1863 at what is now 412 Adelphi Street. The American Civil War was raging, and this was 20 years before the building of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Gloriously standing, the kindergarten through 12th grade academy “teaches and illustrates to students what rules to follow so they can become productive citizens of their community,” said Blash in a president’s address in “Adelphi Today.”

We congratulate Adelphi Academy on their historic achievement!
