Bay Ridge prepares for parade

On Saturday, March 9, the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Committee had its annual dinner dance, attended by this year’s grand marshal, deputy marshals and past honorees, who were given special lapel pins with the parade’s logo.

This was our largest event, attended by over 370 people; the enthusiasm has been incredible, said Frankie Marra, president of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Parade Committee.

This year’s honorees are Grand Marshal Sister Virginia Lake, director of alumni at Bishop Kearney, and Deputy Marshals Marianna Murray O’Connor, Tom MacLellan, Eileen Long-Chelales, Karen Hennigan, Christine Doherty, Chris Coughlin, Enda Lally and James Quigley.

For the first time, the parade will be held on Third Avenue. This is going to be our biggest parade, said Marra. Expected this year will be more marching bands , including those from the Fire and Sanitation Departments as well as the Fire Department band from Washington D.C.

The parade will go from Marine Avenue to 67th Street.Mass will be held prior to the parade, 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, followed by the annual brunch at Hunter’s Steak & Ale House.
