Snow falls and Daylight Saving Time leaps forward

Brooklyn is covered in snow after yesterday’s rain and wind made way for a night of steady snowfall that increased during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will continue to fall through the afternoon and begin to abate in the evening. Between one and five inches of snow are expected across the borough.

Brooklyn’s temperatures are in the 30s and wind gusts are at 20 to 25 mph.

A winter weather advisory was issued to 1 p.m. today.

Alternative side parking regulations continue to be suspended for today, Friday, March 8.

As the weekend arrives, so does reminders about Daylight Saving Time this Sunday, March 10, when we will set the clocks FORWARD by one hour.

This is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well, says the FDNY.

Said FDNY Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, “In 2012, the Department recorded 58 fire-related fatalities, the lowest number in New York City history. However, in 79% of those cases, no working smoke detector was present. A working smoke detector dramatically increases the chances of escaping and surviving a fire. Simply put, working smoke detectors save lives.”
