STAR OF BROOKLYN: Jacklyn V. Tirotta

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Jacklyn V. Tirotta, currently a graduate student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, is a devoted volunteer, and Elvis appreciator, and she has acquired an impressive resume in her 24 years—and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.

After stepping into work with her mother at a young age, Tirotta quickly picked up a taste for the faced-paced world of politics. From January, 2007, to June, 2010, Tirotta enjoyed a nearly-four-year run, volunteering with New York State Assemblymember Janele Hyer-Spencer, who then represented the 60th Assembly District.

Tirotta currently serves as recording secretary for the 68th Precinct Community Council, a volunteer group that seeks to build bridges between the NYPD and local residents, where she keeps the minutes during the group’s monthly meetings.

Spreading her volunteering experience further, Tirotta now volunteers for Safe Horizon, an agency that provides support, prevents violence, and promotes justice for victims of crime and abuse.

PERSONAL LIFE: While her volunteer work is separate from her personal life, Tirotta maintains that she “loves working with children” and really enjoys the work that she does with Safe Horizon.

Watching horror and romance movies is at the top of her “hobbies list,” along with reading mystery books, and listening to jazz music and a little bit of the king, Elvis.

MOTIVATION: “If I want to achieve my goals, I have to work for it,” Tirotta explained. Staying motivated and “trying to be a better person everyday,” is what drives her most.

While she’s still trying to “figure it all out” and discover what sorts of achievements or goals are in the cards for her going forward, Tirotta clearly has racked up an already impressive list of accomplishments.
