Vision Walk —eyeing a cure!

Eyeing a cure for everyone who suffers from blinding diseases has been Ridgeite Donna Russo’s main goal for the past five years and again this year she will be leading a team in the seventh Annual NYC Vision Walk to take place in Manhattan on April 20 this year.

Russo, who was diagnosed 13 years ago with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP)—which, in most cases, causes complete loss of vision—will be proudly participating in the event, for the fourth year leading her team called “Team Donza.”

She got involved with the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB), a non-profit organization that raises money for research to find cures and treatments for illnesses such as RP, Usher Syndrome and Leber Congenital Amaurosis, five years ago, becoming a New York City chapter leader and a VisionWalk leader, as well as a part of the committee for the organization’s Partners for Retinal Health program.

“I remain confident that a ‘Cure is in Sight’ to halt and reverse the damage that has already been done to all those who suffer from a blinding retinal disease,” Russo exclaimed.

Her team member goal this year is 50, along with raising a total amount of $10,000. Overall, since the spring of 2006, VisionWalk has raised $25 million, always going for more.

The walk will begin by the Central Park Bandshell at 9 a.m. Check in is an hour before.
