Another accident on Fourth Avenue

The intersection on Fourth Avenue and 85th Street, considered one of the most dangerous in the neighborhood by Ridgeites, was the scene of yet another accident on the afternoon of Friday, May 10.

An elderly driver was allegedly backing up his Jeep on 85th Street to get to Fourth Avenue when he collided with a Ford Focus that was traveling on Fourth Avenue with the light, causing noticeable damage to it, according to a police source, who said that the driver of the vehicle on 85th Street had suffered some sort of medical condition that may have contributed to the accident.

The vehicle then hit a parked car, flipping it over.

“I couldn’t believe it; he hit it at such a speed,” said Terry Ryan, the driver of the Ford Focus.

The owner of the parked car, Lina F., who is a resident of Staten Island, said she was glad to be alive. She was running some errands while vising her daughter in the neighborhood.

“It was scary. I went to the bank across the street,” she said. When she came out, the car was no longer there.

Diana Leowiz, a pedestrian who happened to walk by the accident scene, said she’s terrified for the sake of her family.

According to the police, the driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
