FASTRACK Comes to the N and R in Brooklyn

Fourth Avenue Line Closing from 95^th to 36^th Streets

On Monday, May 6, MTA New York City Transit brings FASTRACK to the N and R Fourth Avenue line in Brooklyn. N trains are rerouted via the D line in both directions between 36^th Street and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue. Special N shuttle trains will operate between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and 8^th Avenue. This FASTRACK will operate from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, May 6 to early Friday morning, May 10. Regular R service between Forest Hills-71^st Avenue in Queens and 36^th Street in Brooklyn will end at the regularly scheduled time.

Travel alternatives:

• Take free shuttle buses to and from 95^th Street, 86^th Street, 77^th Street, Bay Ridge Avenue, 59^th Street, 53^rd Street, 45^th Street and 36^th Street stations in Brooklyn
• Take the special N shuttle trains to and from N stations between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and 8^th Avenue, Brooklyn.
• Transfer between free shuttle buses and D, N or R trains at 36^th Street.
• Transfer between the special N shuttle trains and D or N trains at 62^nd Street-New Utrecht Avenue or Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.

FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This gives free access to the system, allowing an army of maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks without the concern of having to “clear up” to allow trains to pass.

The new FASTRACK corridors for 2013 include: the Broadway N, Q, R south of Queensboro Plaza to Court Street; the A line between 168^th Street and 207^th Street in Upper Manhattan, the D Concourse Line between 161^st and 205^th Street; and the Lexington Avenue 4, 5, and 6 local and express lines between Grand Central-42^nd Street and 125^th Street.

FASTRACK projects are also scheduled for the Sixth/Eighth Avenue Lines (A, B, C, D) between 59^th Street-Columbus Circle and 168^th Street-Broadway and 161^st Street; the Fourth Avenue line (D, N, R) between 36^th Street and 95^th Street in Brooklyn and the 2 along Nostrand Avenue between Franklin and Flatbush Avenues.

These FASTRACK efforts have been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods. Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses; brochures will be available in both English and Spanish. Our next FASTRACK weekend closure will be on the D and N lines between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Bay Parkway (D) and 86^th Street (N). The next FASTRACK weekday overnight closure will be on the Upper East Side in Manhattan on the 4, 5, and 6 from May 20-24. 4, 5, and 6 trains will run local in both directions between Grand Central-42^nd Street and 125^th Street.
