Life is a carnival!

This Sunday, June 2, get ready for a second dose of excitement with the 20th annual Fifth Avenue Festival, sponsored by the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID).

The BID invites everyone, from the neighborhood and beyond, to take it all in — from games, rides, all kinds of foods and vendors selling a wide range of items, to the not-to-be-missed ninth annual pizza eating contest at Rocco’s Pizzeria from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“Come have a great time from one end to the other,” urged Chip Cafiero, the event’s organizer, of the 10-block festival—held between Bay Ridge Avenue and 85th Street.

“There will be a lot of pet stuff, with pet adoptions at two locations and half a block of pet supplies,” Cafiero said, an unusual addition to the annual fun-fest. The locations to visit the furry friends are at 74th Street and at 82nd Street.

“It’s growing every year; it’s gotten better and better,” noted Cafiero of the event, adding that he is hoping for no rain on big day. “I’m glad to see the rain this weekend; hopefully the weather will be on our side,” he remarked.

The festival is held every year starting at noon and lasting through 6 p.m. The main stage is located in front of Rocco’s Pizzeria, at 78th Street and Fifth Avenue. Frankie Marra and his band, and two other bands will be performing. The Bean Post Pub will put on a karaoke contest, Cafiero added, so don’t forget to stop by at 7525 Fifth Avenue.

“With a week left, everyone signs up at last minute,” Cafiero noted. “There’ll be lots of new food, new trucks.”

Shoot some hoops, get your face painted, double over with laughter, make new friends; all this and more is what this all-day festival can provide.

Enjoy it to the fullest!
