The Dyker Heights library, at 8202 13th Avenue, will shut on Friday, July 5 for the installation of self-check machines, and will remain closed for a month, with reopening scheduled to take place on Monday, August 5.

The self-check machines allow patrons to check out books quickly, and, they also free up staff time so our librarians can interact and help customers,” explained Jason Carey, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn Public Library, in an email. “The first self-check was installed at Highlawn several years ago and we’ve gotten good response from the public as we’ve completed installations across the borough.”

Eileen Kassab, a librarian at the branch, told members of the Dyker Heights Civic Association, gathered at St. Philip’s Church for their May meeting, that the Dyker library was “one of the last” to get the new equipment. “They know what they are doing.”
