Larry Morrish’s Unsung Bay Ridge

People, places and things below the radar that positively impact Bay Ridge lifestyles

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Our unsung heroes

Happy 26th Anniversary to our unsung heroes of the week: Patricia and Peter Killen. I can hardly believe so many years have passed since I attended their June 12 wedding. Peter’s retirement as an 68th Precinct detective, and Patricia as a public school teacher, did not stop their community involvement. With Patricia at his side, Peter has been active in community affairs for the past thirty years. They both served as past president of the Bay Ridge Community Council, and Patricia was past president of the Bay Ridge Lions. Peter also heads the Bay Ridge AARP and is executive director of the Bay Ridge Consumer Federation. We wish this hard working couple many more years of health and happiness as they continue working for the good of our community.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Vitamin E capsule

Our Shih-Tzu puppy came down with some sort problem with her ears. She kept shaking her head violently, rubbing her ears to the ground and scratching her right ear. My wife did some research and selected the Vitamin E recommendation, as the others involved vinegar, which might cause pain. If it did not work, we would have taken her to the vet.

However, it did, and within three days the shaking had greatly reduced. One 400 mg capsule was pierced and squeezed into the ear. She seemed to like the soothing sensation because she welcomes the treatment.

Please consult your doctor if you are on any medication.
