Cops honored for nabbing burglary suspect

Two 68th Precinct police officers were in the spotlight as Cops of the Month for June, receiving kudos for a key collar at the last meeting of the precinct’s community council before the summer recess.

Sergeant Angel Rosa and P.O. Marcello Gianquinto snagged the honor for their arrest of an individual suspected of committing a series of burglaries in Bay Ridge this year.

The two officers, who belong to the school unit, were on patrol, said Captain Richard DiBlasio, the commanding officer of the precinct, “when they observed a vehicle that was wanted in the community [for its association] with several burglaries.”

When the two cops first saw the car, it was parked, so they sent out an alert and waited and watched, DiBlasio said, till they saw the suspect walking up the block. He was soon captured by plainclothes officers.

“Further investigation,” DiBlasio went on, “led to nine burglaries being closed out.

“I am sure that there are many residents of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights who are happy with your observation,” the captain told the two officers, “and we are very grateful for your work.”

The Cop of the Month honors come for Rosa as he gets ready to retire, having spent 20 years with the police. “He exemplifies what the NYPD is all about,” DiBlasio stressed.
