Culture Briefs: Animal encounters, burlesque shows and more…

FUN WITH ANIMALS

How much fun can you have? On Thursdays and Fridays until August 30, join the Prospect Park Alliance at the Park’s Audubon Center at the Boathouse for a free animal encounter, and test your knowledge about the hairy and not-so-hairy-creatures that reside in Brooklyn.

Join the trained staff in learning much more than you already knew about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. Learn what it takes to care for these amazing creatures and even assist in an actual feeding. How exciting! Want to be a part of it?

There will also be opportunities to get up close and personal with the critters. Starts at 4 p.m. and it’s free. For more information, don’t forget to visit: http://www.prospectpark.org/calendar/event/animal-encounter and here’s a link to help you get there: http://www.prospectpark.org/visit/activities/audubon#directions.

Get to the Audubon Center by entering the park at the Lincoln Road/Ocean Avenue entrance.

Have fun!

FREAK SHOW

New York’s Original Boylesque Festival is back for a seventh smash year, and on Friday, August 16, at 10 p.m., Coney Island USA will be presenting: “It’s a Man! It’s a Tease.”

For $15, get a kick out of one of many Burlesque at the Beach events that are offered at the Coney Island favorite, located at 1208 Surf Avenue. For more events like this, visit: http://www.coneyisland.com/events/?program=1.

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

Still free after 35 years; Celebrate Brooklyn! invites you to party with different bands at no cost, but this benefit concert, to take place on Saturday, July 27 at 7 p.m. is the exception.

It costs $80 (reserved) and $50 (GA) and offers Led Zeppelin’s frontman, Robert Plant, who will present The Sensational Space Shifters which organizers say “will play some new tunes as well as songs from Zeppelin’s catalog re-imagined with African rhythms, twinges of folk and even funk.”

To take place at the Prospect Park Bandshell, Ninth Street and Prospect Park West. Visit: http://bricartsmedia.org/events/celebrate-brooklyn/benefit-concert-robert-plant-presents-the-sensational-space-shifters for more information.
