THE BUZZ: Hot Summer Night Concert

Why aren’t we at the beach?

Better yet, the beach first followed by a free Hot Summer Night Concert, hosted by Onstage at Kingsborough.

That’s what summer is or should be all about.

The free outdoor concert series started on Saturday, July 6 with the Brooklyn Community Wind Ensemble kicking off the season while paying a respectful tribute to Independence Day.

At 8 p.m., the evening just gets started week after week as a different musician enchants audience with tunes that quickly reach the heart.

This year, our concerts will feature some of the finest jazz and swing artists in the world that play regularly at New York City’s hottest clubs, said the Executive Director of On Stage at Kingsborough, Anna Becker.

In an inviting tone, Becker, added, Or you can find them right here, at Kingsborough’s free outdoor concert series at our bandshell, in the shadow of our stunning lighthouse, and just a breezy stroll away from our breathtaking sea wall.

“We invite everyone to bring a picnic and make a wonderful summer evening of it, Becker added.

On July 20, the Hot Sardines are lined up to take you over with their rhythm.

The group includes pianist-bandleader Evan Bibs Palazzo and Paris-born singer Miz Elizabeth in a band that includes a tap dancer. The musicians have entertained crowds with their unique blend of hot jazz, Dixieland and Tin Pan Alley tunes at a wide range of well-known venues such as Lincoln Center, Top of the Standard, Joe’s Pub, and the Blue Note Jazz Festival.

Then, on July 27, it’s the turn of David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Centennial Band, a Grammy Award-nominated band that plays weekly at Birdland Jazz Club with renowned guest musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Dick Hyman, Jon Hendricks, and blues great Big Joe Turner.
